Benjamin Sumner Welles (1892-1961) graduated from Harvard University in 1914 and began his diplomatic career in 1915 as Secretary of the United States Embassy in Tokyo. Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, on 30 November 1874.
